A Little History
From its very beginning, the sandwich
has been the ultimate regular food. John Montague,
the Fourth Earl of Sandwich, invented this
prototypical nosh not out of culinary genius but because
he was a fanatical card player. Deep into a 24-hour
card game and reluctant to leave the table for sustenance,
he instructed a servant to bring him a slab of beef
between two slices of toast, and the sandwich was born.
More then three centuries later, this handheld meal
remains the preferred feast for men, women, and children.
